NLP – Neuro Linguistic Progamming
Neuro linguistic programming (usually referred to as NLP) is a technology that helps individuals use both the conscious and unconscious mind to grow as a person and reach personal goals.
Neuro linguistic programming was developed by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, a linguist, in the 1970s. They developed this method through imitation and observation of therapists Fritz Perls and Virginia Satir, as well as psychiatrist Milton H. Erickson.
Their emphasis in the creation of neuro linguistic programming was to model excellence through an understanding of neurology, linguistics, and programming as it pertains to the human experience. NLP helps people learn the skills they need to understand how they think, as well as their behavioral patterns, and then use their skills to make changes in their lives. It’s a way to understand how people understand the world, then use that knowledge to better themselves.
Neuro linguistic programming takes the position that the reality people experience is not always the “truth,” but is reality based on individuals’ perceptions. Under this belief, people’s problems are self-perceived. When people understand this, they can overcome these problems, and much more quickly than in traditional forms of therapy. Since the self-perceptions of life are based on the individual’s neurology, people have the ability to change any aspect of their lives. Not only that, but the unconscious mind is a powerful tool that can be tapped into and used to help change self-perceptions.
There are, of course, criticisms surrounding neuro linguistic programming. Many claim there is no empirical support for the claims of value made, others claim it is not true science, but a pseudoscience or an outdated, “New Age” technique. However, efforts have been made by scholars in NLP to improve the research.
When used as a psychotherapy, NLP focuses on the present and future rather than the past. The practitioner helps the patient take steps toward the patient’s desired situation in the present and future. It also claims that the mind can learn or relearn patterns quickly, making NLP a “quick” form of therapy, unlike more traditional talk therapies that may take years before success is seen.
One of the well known uses of neuro linguistic programming is in hypnotherapy. During hypnotherapy, the practitioner relaxes the patient’s mind. In this state, both the conscious and unconscious mind are open to suggestion. The practitioner then uses the power of the unconscious mind to “reprogram” the patient. When used to get over a fear of heights, for example, the practitioner “teaches” the patient to react to heights in a different way, so the mind doesn’t react in fear. This method is often used for people who want to stop smoking, lose weight, quit gambling, or deal with fears and anxieties.
Neuro linguistic programming uses the power of the patient’s mind to help the patient. In NLP, the patient already has all the tools needed to change and become the person he or she wants to be. The practitioner simply teaches the patients to use those tools, and gives them the skills needed to tap into the power that exists already to become the people they want to be to live happy, healthy lives.
Hypnosis Techniques – Self Hypnosis
Hypnosis Techniques
What is self hypnosis, you ask? Many say this is the process by which you hypnotize yourself. Instead of the hypnotist suggesting what you should do, the inner part of ourselves takes over. The deeper into the hypnotic state you go the more connected the mind and body become. Many times this method is used for helping to control certain feelings experienced that often times are just medicated with prescription drugs. This is not a new concept and many people believe it is quite possible to treat many problems with hypnosis rather than medications.
While it may be possible one thing is certain, self hypnosis can be relaxing and help us to manage stress. This has been proven and once you are in a relaxed state, the same as when you are hypnotized by a professional, the mind can perform miraculous feats. This is one of the ways that therapists help people to deal with issues they have buried in their subconscious which may be causing problems later in life.
Many people believe that all hypnosis is self hypnosis because they say it is not possible to be hypnotized unless you allow yourself to be. Have you ever caught yourself ‘spacing out’? This can be considered day dreaming but what it actually means is you are in a hypnotic state. Many people do this several times a day. Everything around you fades away and even though you may hear people talking, it is like a background noise that you really do not even notice.
Your mind can wander at any time. If you are not truly interested in something you are doing, the next thing you know you may be caught up in a moment when your mind is blank and you do not hear anyone speaking to you. This is a form of hypnosis. The techniques for self hypnosis are not that hard to follow and once you know that you have been hypnotized, there are many aspects of your life you may want to change using self hypnosis.
There are different help tools if you feel this is what you need to use. Cds are available as well as audio and the ones that you can read are referred to as scripts. The scripts are fairly long but basically what they do is to ready you and help you to hypnotize yourself. The technique starts out with relaxing all the muscles in your body from your toes all the way up to your arms and hands and chest. While counting backwards from 10 the relaxing is stopped at just about 7 when you should be in a very relaxed state and your muscles should feel relaxed. From this point on you should be in a very relaxed state with nothing bothering you.
The next step is to imagine someplace in your mind that has many aspects to it so that you can recall all of them. For instance a field with a barn in the distance, flowers, trees, hills – anything that you can think of that is in the field. After thoroughly checking out this place, the next step is to find an exit to this world and go to a place that has an elevator that can be taken down as far as you want to go. This is the area that will be used to put everything bad that you want taken out of your conscious mind. All of this is designed to allow you to relive childhood and sometimes adult memories that may have been painful.

Hypnosis Techniques Introduction
Hypnosis Techniques
Hypnosis is a subject that everyone has a opinion about, but few people have ever experienced. Hypnosis can help people overcome a surprisingly wide range of habits, emotional states, and phobias. It can also dramatically improve performance for people like students in exams, athletes, creative artists, and the rest of us in everyday life.
Being hypnotised is not dissimilar to being sleepy or in a daydream. Most of us have probably been in a trance in everyday life. Hypnosis is a state of mind that is connected to deep relaxation, narrowed focus, and increased suggestibility. Hypnosis is a intermediate state between sleep and wakefulness
When you are in a hypnotic trance you are completely aware of the words being spoken to you , and should a afire alarm go off, or a life threatening situation arise you will immediately take yourself out of the trance to respond.
